NHL: Stanley Cup Value Picks

Tomorrow the puck officials drops on the 2016-2017 season.  Yesterday we talked about the upcoming New York Rangers season, we are big time homers at AVS but we didn’t want to leave out the rest of the league.  Here are a few Stanley Cup value picks we like going into the year, not saying we are playing all of these but they caught my eye.  Lines are from my current book as of tonight. East  Rangers +1800 Well duh! Of course we like the Rangers at 18/1, as we mentioned yesterday there are several holes the Rangers need to fill Continue reading NHL: Stanley Cup Value Picks

New York Rangers ’17 Preview

College Football has a new upset every week, the NFL is in mid season form and the MLB playoffs are in full effect.  So of course that means its time to sharpen the skates and get back on the ice, the NHL is coming! The NHL is the always known as the 4th most popular sports in the States, even 5th if you include college football but not here at AVS.  We love the puck based sport, with all of our support behind the New York Rangers.  The past few years have been a wild ride from the Stanley Cup Continue reading New York Rangers ’17 Preview

Almost Varsity Sports Hot Soup Picks: Week 6

This is the big bounce back week people, don’t miss out on the Hot Soup! For our picks history on the year check it out here Notre Dame @ NC State -2.5 This line is a complete overreaction to how poorly Notre Dame has played this year. Two weeks ago we jumped all over Florida State in the exact same spot.  Notre Dame recruits 4 and 5 star athletes all over the field. NC State does not. Everyone thinks Notre Dame is broken, and they are, but sheer athleticism isn’t even close.  Notre Dame has athletes trying to play their Continue reading Almost Varsity Sports Hot Soup Picks: Week 6

MLB Playoff Preview / Predictions

162 games per team are in the books and now the real action starts on the diamond.  Every summer you hear the phrase the “Dog Days of Summer” regarding the long baseball season but summer is over and October baseball is already in full force. In 2012 the MLB added in the second wild card creating a one game playoff.  Some hate the after 162 games it all comes down to one game for 4 teams but after its 5th year I think we can all say that this was the right move and creates Game 7 feels to kick Continue reading MLB Playoff Preview / Predictions

Almost Varsity Sports Hot Soup: NCAA WK 5

It’s another Christmas Saturday morning here at Almost Varsity.  We have a bag of presents for you.  This is my favorite week of picks this year and I hope you all jump on board the money train. Florida Gators (-11) @ Vanderbilt Commodores; 40.5 Florida QB Luke Del Rio has been a revelation this year in comparison to his predecessors.  With a defense allowing only 2.1 YPC and 76 YPG don’t expect Vanderbilt to be able to do much offensively.  This will be a low scoring game but Florida should be able to win by two touchdowns today The Pick: Continue reading Almost Varsity Sports Hot Soup: NCAA WK 5
