Almost Varsity Sports Hot Soup: NCAA WK 5

It’s another Christmas Saturday morning here at Almost Varsity.  We have a bag of presents for you.  This is my favorite week of picks this year and I hope you all jump on board the money train.

Florida Gators (-11) @ Vanderbilt Commodores; 40.5

Florida QB Luke Del Rio has been a revelation this year in comparison to his predecessors.  With a defense allowing only 2.1 YPC and 76 YPG don’t expect Vanderbilt to be able to do much offensively.  This will be a low scoring game but Florida should be able to win by two touchdowns today The Pick: Florida (-11);  2 Units

Memphis Tigers @ Mississippi (-15); 69.5

Memphis had Ole MIss walk into their home last year and were able to pull off the upset.  Ole Miss has one of the best offenses in the country and they will be able to put up points this week.  Add on top of that there is the revenge factor, and Chad Kelly will be leading this Runnin Rebels team with a chip on their shoulder.  Expect alot of points today and a 21-24 point win from the Rebels The Pick: Ole Miss (-15);  1 Unit

Kentucky Wildcats @ Alabama Crimson Tide (-35); 57

Jalen Hurts is the first QB under center in the last few years for Alabama that has impressed me.  He’s only a freshman. The Kentucky defense can’t stop this dual-threat quarterback.  Nick Saban has shown he does not let up on teams when Bama is up big.  This team will put run away from the Wildcats. The Pick: Alabama (-35);  1 Unit

Oklahoma Sooners (-3.5) @ TCU Horned Frogs; 68.5

There were not many teams Almost Varsity Sports was higher on this year than the TCU Horned Frogs.  We picked them to go over the season win total, win the Big12, and be a sleeper national title team.  There are not many coaches in the NCAA better than Gary Patterson.  In the last few games TCU has been underdogs theyve covered the spread each time.  Baker Mayfield has looked pedestrian this year and Bob Stoops looks mistified.  The Pick: TCU (+3.5);  2.5 Units

Rice Owls @ Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (-24.5); 58.5

This Rice team is easy to read.  They are simply BAD.  The Southern Miss team was selected by AVS to win Conference USA and we are very high on the fireworks this offense can produce.  Nick Mullens has 9 TDs already this year while leading this offensive attack.  They will score early and often and the Rice offense doesn’t have near enough weapons to keep up.  I’m expecting a 38-10 win for the Golden Eagles. The Pick: Southern Miss (-24.5);  1.5 Units

BONUS PICK!!!!

Louisville Cardinals (-2) @ Clemson Tigers; 67.5

This pick is too good to be true and I COULD NOT be more confident.  This Clemson team has looked like they aren’t in sync.  This Clemson team is being counted out and I’m not sure why.  The entire nation has fallen in love with Lamar Jackson.  And we get it, he’s pretty good.  However, there’s a QB under center for the Tigers who isn’t too bad himself.  Deshaun Watson has been battle tested.  He’s got big wins against Florida State, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Louisville (all last year).  He played in a pretty close game against the national champion, Crimson Tide, too losing by only 4.

At first, I thought this line was too good to be true and didnt make sense because I know what Clemson has on offense and defense in terms of talent.  Then, when you step back to look at it, you realize it’s a lock.  Nearly 80% of bets placed in vegas have been for the Louisville Cardinals.  Lamar Jackson fever has swept the nation and that exactly what Vegas wants.  Casinos aren’t built by losing money.  Losing games when 80% of people are on one side will cause one heck of a loss.  We’re going with an absolute MORTAL LOCK today and playing max units on two different spots here.  A 6 unit victory is in your future with a Clemson outright win.

The pick: Clemson (+2) 3 units; Clemson (ML – +115) 3 Units
