Week 6 NCAA Preview

Almost Varsity Sports is back after a huge 7-2 weekend for everyone (3-2 NCAA / 4-0 NFL)!!

We’ll stick with picks this week until week 8 when I bring up the Heisman and National Championship watches, along with bowl predictions.  The NCAA season is heating up and division races are starting to take shape.  Here are a few games I like for this week in college football:

Georgia Tech @ Clemson (-11):

SAMMY IS BACK!

4-0 while picking for or against the Clemson Tigers.  I feel like I know this team very well and I know the ACC well enough for you guys to make some money.  The offense of the Tigers is EXPLOSIVE.  Sammy Watkins is back and adds yet another weapon to this potent offensive attack.  Georgia Tech’s offense is very very good.  Clemson always struggles stopping the triple option every year.  Both teams are averaging 40 points per game!  Two teams in the top 25 in scoring and 70th and 67th in points given up.  If you put a gun to my head I take Clemson (-11) (but that’s off the record).

The pick: Over 71 points

Oklahoma @ Texas Tech (+4.5):

Landry Jones last year vs Texas Tech

Landry Jones is upset after losing at home last year to Tech and having National Championship chances ruined.  Texas Tech is a top ranked defense this year, but they have yet to play any big offenses.  Landry Jones started the season as a Heisman candidate and the team around him is extremely solid.  The Sooners score almost 40 points per game and give up only 14.  Damien Williams, the Sooners running back, is averaging almost 10 yards per carry.  Texas Tech’s lack of a tough schedule so far will hurt them.

The Pick: Oklahoma (-4.5)

Virginia Tech @ North Carolina (-6):

I spoke about how highly I think of Virginia Tech last week.  I still feel that way even after a loss to a pretty good Cincinnati team.  The defense is solid.  Logan Thomas is a very good quarterback, not great however.  I spoke about how Virginia Tech is the winningest team in college football under Frank Beamer.  All reasons I’m staying on the Virginia Tech bandwagon for one more week.  I’ll take the points gladly and watch Virginia Tech win this outright in Chapel Hill.

The Pick: Virginia Tech (+6)
