What Goalie Controversy?!

The Rangers do not have a goalie controversy, let’s get that out of the way now.  What they do have is two very talented goalies playing at a high level of hockey.  This sounds like a good thing to me.  Antti Raanta is getting the start tonight vs the Stanley Cup Champ Penguins.  Over the past few weeks some of the hockey world thinks that Lundqvist’s benching is a sign of concern for the Blueshirts and for the King’s future in NY.  I take this the complete opposite ways.  Lets take a quick look at the easy stats: King Henrik Continue reading What Goalie Controversy?!

NHL: Stanley Cup Value Picks

Tomorrow the puck officials drops on the 2016-2017 season.  Yesterday we talked about the upcoming New York Rangers season, we are big time homers at AVS but we didn’t want to leave out the rest of the league.  Here are a few Stanley Cup value picks we like going into the year, not saying we are playing all of these but they caught my eye.  Lines are from my current book as of tonight. Water Cooler Mondays

Another weekend of sports in the books, here is the AVS quick hits in case you can’t remember her name from the bar Saturday and need a recap College Football  Florida State was the latest stop on  Lamar Jackson Heisman Tour.  This kid is for real and so is Louisville jumping into the top 5 in the polls by destroying #2 Florida State. The biggest upset of the weekend goes to North Dakota State winning in Iowa!  Brutal lose for Iowa as their chances of making the playoffs disappear. Don’t tell Notre Dame fans that winning is important as the Continue reading Water Cooler Mondays

Something is Brewing with the Blueshirts

The New York Rangers are in a very interesting spot as an organization right now, they have one of the best goalies of all time still in his prime but do not really the talent for a Stanley Cup.  This limbo is probably the worst place to be as a sports organizations.  You cant blow up the whole roster and let Lundqvist end his career with a last place team but you also do not have the assets to make impact moves. The Rangers went for it in 2014, and they went big.  It almost won them a cup, losing Continue reading Something is Brewing with the Blueshirts

2014 NHL Playoffs #BecauseItsTheCup

Lord Stanley’s Cup is the single greatest trophy in sports and the quest for the Cup begins tomorrow night.  March Madness is a great two weeks of stunning game winners and Cinderella stories but sorry NCAA, the NHL has the best postseason in sports.  Every night could end up in a 3OT game winner by a defensemen who has scored 5 goals all year.  East Coast team / West Coast team, the NHL needs to be your TV every night.  NBA fans will say their playoffs are better, but does anyone think it wont be Spurs/Thunder and Heat/Pacers?  The first Continue reading 2014 NHL Playoffs #BecauseItsTheCup
