Almost Varsity Sports Hot Soup Picks: Week 9

San Diego State Utah State 1H Under 21.5

Aztecs RB Donnell Pumphrey is an absolute beast so far this year. San Diego state was one of our favorite teams preseason and the defense, not the offense, has been the talk of the town. Utah state does not have the offense to go up and down the field and I believe SD St will milk enough clock here in the first half. We cashed in the last two weeks on SD St first half bets. We’re going back to the well here. Under 21.5 is the play. Look for 17-21 points to come in juuuuuust under that number.

The pick: 1H Under (1.5 units)

Baylor (-3) @ Texas
This line doesn’t make any sense to me. Undefeated Baylor leaves Waco and makes the short trip down to Austin. This is Baylor’s first “real” test. The schedule the Bears have played thus far is extremely soft. We can’t tell if this team is as good as the record shows and as good as we think they are. The line says that someone knows something we don’t.

Texas can score at home. This team a completely different team in Austin than away from Austin. I expect this to be a game of a lot of points and Texas will score just enough to get by the Baylor Bears outright. Take the points with an easy pick.

The pick: Texas (+3) (2.5 units)

Navy @ South Florida (-6)

Navy will have its fair share of rushing yards in this game so don’t get nervous. The south Florida offense will be key. Quinton Flowers and Marlon Mack will move the ball up and down the field. The Navy offense won’t be able to keep up here. It’s really that simple.

The pick: USF (-6) (1.5 Units)

West Virginia (-4) @ Oklahoma State

This couldn’t be a worse time to be on West Virginia. This team is coming off the biggest win of the year and they have to recover and get up to travel to Stillwater to beat a very good offensive team. Oklahoma state will be able to score on this defense. I have no problem only getting four points as I think the Pokes win this one outright.

The pick: Oklahoma State (+4) (1 Unit)

UCF @ Houston (-9)

Greg Ward junior is too good to be kept down against UCF. Houston’s wheels are coming off; or so it seems. This team is too talented to throw in the towel on the season. The hot commodity coach, Tom Herman, needs to show he’s still deserving of the next big college contract.

The pick: Houston (-9) (3 Units)

The leans:
Duke +6.5
Michigan State +25
Western Kentucky <-21 Nebraska +8
